Pelvic floor muscle activity during impact activities in continent and incontinent women: A systematic review
International Urogynecology Journal Sep 18, 2017
Moser H, et al. - This paper resolved to abridge the recent evidence on pelvic floor muscles (PFMs) activity during impact activities such as jumping, running or coughing among both continent and incontinent women. The vital factor in maintaining continence was found to be the timing of PFM activity associated the activity of other trunk muscles. Women with stress urinary incontinence (SUI) reported delayed PFM activity. The impact activities causing involuntary and reflex PFM activity warranted advanced research. This could assist in improving the comprehension of how the PFMs reacted during impact activities and in identifying the best practices for inclusion in rehabilitation programs.
