Migliorini F, Trivellas A, Eschweiler J, et al. - Researchers performed a systematic review of the literature to determine advantages and limitations, update current evidence and evaluate the role of a pedicled quadriceps tendon autograft for primary medial patellofemoral ligament (MPFL) reconstruction in patients with recurrent patellofemoral instability. Researchers conducted the present systematic review according to the PRISMA guidelines. For inclusion, they considered all the clinical studies evaluating the role of a pedicled strip of quadriceps tendon autograft for primary MPFL reconstruction in patients with recurrent patellofemoral instability. They conducted methodological quality assessment through the modified Coleman Methodology score. They retrieved data from 9 articles (191 procedures). For MPFL reconstruction, the use of a pedicled strip of quadriceps tendon as a graft is a suitable choice in patients with recurrent patellar instability. Though frequently correlated with a lateral release, it is unclear if the latter is necessary for the success of the technique. As per the findings, appropriately powered randomized controlled trials matching this graft source to the others commonly used necessary to at least determine the non-inferiority of this graft to the others.
