Pediatric ovarian torsion: Follow- up after preservation of ovarian tissue
Journal of Pediatric Surgery Mar 15, 2019
Geimanaite L, et al. - Via this retrospective study, researchers examined the efficiency of the preservation of ovarian tissue in patients treated at their hospital for ovarian torsion from January 2007 to December 2017. Outcomes revealed preservation of the normal anatomy and folliculogenesis in all 42 ovaries (39 patients) after detorsion. Detorsion was identified as a safe option regardless of the level of ischemia or volume of the affected ovary. Findings emphasize undertaking follow-up, especially for the further diagnostics of potential pathological structures or tumors; hence, they recommend monitoring the normalization of blood flow and the volume of the ovary.
