BMC Pediatrics Nov 16, 2019
Wang K, Peng C, Pang W, et al. - Researchers conducted this retrospective study to review their experience with pediatric congenital buttock sinus tract over the past 10 years and to conclude the clinical features and management of the disease, in order to provide a better understanding of this special disease. Participants in the study were 22 pediatric patients (8 boys and 14 girls) diagnosed with a congenital buttock sinus tract. Findings suggested that pediatric congenital buttock sinus tract is rare and has a female morbidity predominance. Patients with a recurrent infection have a distinctive congenital dimple on the buttock, and usually there is a congenital sinus tract from the dimple to the retrorectal space. The only method for the cure is total excision. The nature of the disease is a dermoid cyst or epidermoid cyst that develops retrorectally.
