PD-L1 testing on the EBUS-FNA cytology specimens of non-small cell lung cancer
Lung Cancer Sep 30, 2019
Wang G, Ionescu DN, Lee CH, et al. - Researchers evaluated whether EBUS-FNA cytology specimens are suitable for the testing of PD-L1. Participants were consecutive patients with non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) who underwent EBUS procedure for PD-L1 testing. From 262 patients, 265 EBUS-FNA specimens were sent for testing. The adequacy for PD-L1 testing was displayed by 230 (86.8%). A concordance of 91.3% was observed for results from different specimen types in 34 NSCLC patients with both histology and EBUS-FNA cytology specimens tested for PD-L1. Overall, findings revealed the suitability of EBUS-FNA cytology specimen for PD-L1 testing in patients with advanced NSCLC. Higher PD-L1 expression seemed to be present in metastatic tumors in mediastinal lymph nodes vs primary lesions.
