PAX8 positivity in nested variant of urothelial carcinoma: A potential diagnostic pitfall
Human Pathology Dec 06, 2019
Legesse T, et al. - After anecdotal examples of PAX8 positive nested variant of urothelial carcinoma, 23 cases of the nested variant of urothelial carcinoma from 2011 to 2018 were formally assessed in order to ascertain the use of PAX8 to establish the diagnosis of nephrogenic adenoma. It was discovered that in a notable proportion of nested variant of urothelial carcinoma cases, PAX8 could be positive, and identification of this finding is significant to circumvent misdiagnosis of the nested variant of urothelial carcinoma as nephrogenic adenoma on the basis of PAX8 expression, especially in people with tubular differentiation and limited sampling.
