Patterns of youth cigarette experimentation and onset of habitual smoking
American Journal of Preventive Medicine Apr 20, 2019
Friedman AS, et al. - Researchers examined the association of minors’ patterns of combustible cigarette and e-cigarette experimentation with habitual smoking at ages 18–21 years. Participants included 1,424 young adults (aged 18–21 years) who had tried combustible cigarettes or e-cigarettes. The associations of experimentation patterns before age 18 years with daily smoking and current established smoking (past 30-day use among those who had smoked ≥ 100 cigarettes) were assessed using logistic regressions. Compared with those who tried e-cigarettes alone, greater odds of being habitual smokers at ages 18–21 years were observed among minors who tried combustible cigarettes.
