Patterns of weight change and their effects on clinical outcomes following total knee arthroplasty in an Asian population
Journal of Arthroplasty Sep 14, 2019
Razzaki T, et al. - In a cohort of Asian population including consecutive patients who underwent total knee arthroplasty (TKA) from 2004 to 2015, researchers assessed weight change patterns and their influences on clinical results post-TKA in this prospective cohort study, to find out if weight change pattern in Asian patients after TKA is different from that in Western patients and if these patients will have better clinical outcomes in relation to weight loss post-TKA. They reviewed 602 patients (602 knees) with mean age of 66.39±7.27 years. Weight gain after TKA was seen in 63.12% of overall patients. Findings revealed the tendency of Asians to gain weight after TKA. However, there was no influence of this weight change post-TKA on clinical outcomes, which continued to be good across all BMI groups.
