Patterns of utilization and outcome of ovarian conservation for young women with minimal-risk endometrial cancer
Gynecologic Oncology Jul 03, 2019
Mandelbaum RS, et al. - Researchers analyzed the Nationwide Inpatient Sample to focus on patient features related to and consequences of ovarian conservation at the time of hysterectomy in young women with minimal-risk endometrial cancer in this population-based retrospective analysis. They compared those who underwent ovarian conservation (n = 2314) to those who had oophorectomy (n = 8191) among women aged <50 with minimal-risk endometrial cancer. They discovered 9 different patterns of patient features. With regard to the utilization of ovarian conservation in young women with minimal-risk endometrial cancer, substantial variability was seen based on patient, surgical, and hospital factors. A significant association of ovarian conservation with a reduced probability of hospitalization >2 days was evident following propensity score matching. The link of ovarian conservation with decreased length of hospitalization was reported in the benign gynecologic disease and cervical cancer cohorts. In order to improve patient selection and rates of ovarian conservation, guidelines for ovarian conservation would be of help.
