Patterns of nonsocial and social cognitive functioning in adults with autism spectrum disorder: A systematic review and meta-analysis
JAMA Feb 11, 2019
Velikonja T, et al. - Investigators assessed 75 studies that included 3,361 candidates to evaluate the trends of nonsocial and social cognitive functioning in adults with an autism spectrum disorder (ASD). They found that adults with ASD exhibit impairments in social cognitive domains and in specific nonsocial cognitive domains. The least impaired cognitive domains were attention, vigilance, and working memory. The authors emphasized that understanding the patterns of cognitive functioning in adults with ASD may assist with the identification of cognitive intervention targets.
