Metzler M, et al. – The experts utilized magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) to analyze the relationship between heart rate variability (HRV) and brain injury pattern in newborns with hypoxic ischemic encephalopathy (HIE) undergoing therapeutic hypothermia. They disclosed that the degree of HRV depression was related to the pattern of brain injury. Thus, HRV monitoring might provide insights into the pattern of brain injury at the bedside.
