Patients who leave the emergency department before treatment completion: A retrospective cohort study
The Journal of Emergency Medicine Mar 03, 2021
Ben Natan M, et al. - Researchers aimed at determining factors linked with leaving the emergency department (ED) before treatment completion (LBTC) in the Israeli context. This retrospective cohort study of patients who visited the ED revealed following factors to be linked with the risk of LBTC: a low-acuity triage score and a longer length of stay. Female gender was identified to be a protective factor. Nearly half of the LBTC cases presented at times when there were active primary clinics. Findings are here reflective of the strengths of the Israeli healthcare system. Despite the policy intended to lower the burden of nonurgent ED visits, possible shortcomings remain in the system that are emphasized to be addressed.
