Patients at intermediate surgical risk undergoing isolated interventional or surgical aortic valve implantation for severe symptomatic aortic valve stenosis
Circulation Dec 07, 2018
Werner N, et al. - Researchers used the prospective, all-comers German Aortic Valve Registry, to examine patients with intermediate surgical risk (Society of Thoracic Surgeons score 4%–8%) who had isolated transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR) or conventional surgical aortic valve replacement (SAVR), to compare the clinical characteristics and outcomes between both groups of patients. They noted age and baseline characteristics were remarkably different between patients at intermediate risk undergoing TAVR vs those treated with SAVR. An in-hospital mortality rate of 3.6% was reported in relation to isolated TAVR and SAVR. With TAVR vs SAVR, no significantly differed 1-year mortality was seen in the propensity score analysis.
