Patient satisfaction and our clinical experience with 459 microfocused ultrasound treatments
Lasers in Surgery and Medicine Jul 12, 2019
Chang YC, et al. - Given the safety and efficacy of microfocused ultrasound (MFUS) for noninvasive skin tightening, researchers sought to assess patient satisfaction using an anonymous online platform after MFUS. They invited 253 patients who received 459 MFUS treatments at their center between January 2013 and 2016 to complete an anonymous online survey at least 4 months post-treatment. They asked patients to evaluate improvement in skin tightening as none (0%), mild (0–25%), moderate (26–50%), significant (51–75%), or dramatic (76–100%) and treatment satisfaction as disappointed, neutral, satisfied, or extremely satisfied. Analysis indicated a high response rate, with approximately 80% of responders displaying at least mild tightening with MFUS treatment. Satisfaction following treatment was reported in only 53.1% of patients. Gratitude bias may have led to a lower satisfaction rate in this work vs that reported in previous non-anonymous studies and that reported by patients in the office follow-up appointments.
