Patient reported pain after successful nonunion surgery: Can we completely eliminate it?
Journal of Orthopaedic Trauma Feb 10, 2018
Fisher N, et al. - The factors that were associated with the continued long-term pain following the fracture nonunion surgery were assessed in this trial. An increased risk of significant and potentially debilitating long-term pain following the nonunion surgery was noted in the patients with higher baseline pain scores, elevated Charlson comorbidity index, lower income level or history of smoking. Data indicated that patients could expect complete relieve of pain. Nevertheless, orthopaedic surgeons were advised to inform patients of the possibility of experiencing pain 1 year or more postoperatively.
