Patient-reported outcomes and perioperative complications of total hip arthroplasty following joint preservation surgery for hip dysplasia
Journal of Arthroplasty Feb 05, 2020
Tamaki T, et al. - In this research, patient-reported outcomes and complication rates after total hip arthroplasty following joint preservation surgery for hip dysplasia were investigated. Experts compared patient-reported outcomes and complication rates of 85 hips with previous joint preservation surgery (salvage group) with those of 1,279 hips without joint preservation surgery (primary arthroplasty group). The Japanese Orthopaedic Association Hip-Disease Evaluation Questionnaire was applied to assess the hip condition both preoperatively and 12 months postoperatively. They examined operative data and postoperative (within 12 months) complications. This research showed a lower rate of improvement in individual satisfaction and worse self-reported outcomes in the salvage group. Moreover, these individuals had a longer operative time and a higher risk of operative complications.
