Patient reported outcome measures for major lower limb amputation caused by peripheral artery disease or diabetes: A systematic review
Journal of Vascular Surgery Apr 01, 2021
Miller R, Ambler GK, Ramirez J, et al. - Researchers conducted a systematic review with the aim to determine and describe Patient reported outcome measures (PROMs) available to assess health related quality of life (HRQL) in patients after amputation for peripheral artery disease (PAD) or diabetes. Based on the COnsensus-based Standards for the selection of health Measurement INstruments (COSMIN), they conducted a search for systematic reviews of PROMs. In addition, they searched Ovid MEDLINE, Ovid EMBASE, PsycINFO, CINAHL, and Cochrane CENTRAL from inception until August 2019. They screened a total of 3,317 abstracts and assessed 111 full text articles for eligibility resulting in identification of 64 articles for inclusion. Findings suggested suitability of one measure for use in all patients after amputation. A single item evaluating mobility was included in this “Amputee single item mobility measure”. Per findings, there is no well tested, multidimensional PROM applicable to wheelchair and prosthetic users after amputation and it is urgently required for studies in this field.
