Patient-related risk factors for postoperative infection after cholecystectomy

Jaafar G, et al. – Authors in this study aimed at identifying potential patient–related risk factors for surgical site infection (SSI) and septicaemia following cholecystectomy. They identified certain comorbidities (connective tissue disease, complicated diabetes, uncomplicated diabetes, chronic kidney disease, cirrhosis and obesity) which had an impact on the risk for postoperative infection after cholecystectomy, especially SSI. These comorbidities should be considered when planning the procedure and when deciding on prophylactic antibiotic treatment.
