Patient perspectives on colorectal cancer screening and the role of general practice
BMC Family Practice Aug 02, 2019
Brown LJ, et al. - Researchers studied patient views on colorectal cancer (CRC) screening and the potential role for general practice, given the limited research on the patient experience of CRC screening decision making. Ten adults (aged 50 to 74 years) from general practice in South Australia were recruited. Patient experience exploration offers insight into how individuals make sense of screening and perceived roles in screening for general practice (or other agents). Current government-driven processes are satisfied but perceived value plays a complementary role in increasing screening rates in general practice. According to the investigators, multifaceted strategies are needed to incorporate policies, practice, and individua- level initiatives to improve participation in CRC screening and subsequent population health outcomes.
