Patient factors associated with parathyroidectomy in older adults with primary hyperparathyroidism
JAMA Jan 09, 2021
Seib CD, Suh I, Meng T, et al. - Via performing this population-based cohort study of 210,206 Medicare beneficiaries diagnosed with primary hyperparathyroidism (PHPT) from 2006 to 2016, researchers sought to determine the patient characteristics that are linked with the use of parathyroidectomy for the treatment of older adults with PHPT. Treatment with parathyroidectomy was conducted in 30.0% of patients suggesting that most older adults with PHPT are not provided definitive treatment with parathyroidectomy. Odds of parathyroidectomy were lower in correlation with increasing age, comorbidity, and frailty.
