Patient factors associated with clinical failure following arthroscopic superior capsular reconstruction

Arthroscopy Sep 30, 2020

Gilat R, Haunschild ED, Williams BT, et al. - This study was intended to distinguish demographic, clinical, and radiographic factors associated with failure following superior capsular reconstruction (SCR). Researchers examined prospectively collected data from patients who underwent SCR using a decellularized dermal allograft for an irreparable rotator cuff tear. They recorded demographic characteristics, radiographic findings, concomitant procedures, and patient-reported outcomes. They classified 54 individuals (mean age 56.3±5.8 years, range 45-70) who had undergone SCR, with a minimum 1-year follow-up. The study found greater proportions of female patients and those with subscapularis tear among patients with clinical failure following SCR. The data revealed that greater BMI, lower preoperative forward flexion, and lower preoperative acromiohumeral distance trended toward correlation with clinical failure of SCR.
