Patient characteristics associated with response to NSAID monotherapy in children with systemic juvenile idiopathic arthritis
Pediatric Rheumatology Jan 18, 2018
Sura A, et al. - In this retrospective single-center cohort study of children diagnosed with systemic juvenile idiopathic arthritis (sJIA), researchers looked for presentation characteristics which were associated with response and lack of response to a trial of non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) monotherapy. They recommended against a trial in patients who are >8 years old, with >5 joints involved, or with C-reactive protein (CRP) > 13 mg/dL, although NSAID monotherapy could help achieving clinically inactive disease (CID) in a subset of children with sJIA. In patients who underwent a trial of NSAID monotherapy, a follow up within 2-4 weeks was recommended to assess the possible need for drug escalation.
