Patient-burden and quality of life in atopic dermatitis in US adults: A population-based cross-sectional study
Annals of Allergy, Asthma, and Immunology Jul 19, 2018
Silverberg JI, et al. - Researchers determined the patient-burden of atopic dermatitis (AD) among 602 US adults. They used modified UK Diagnostic Criteria for AD to determine AD. Using self-reported global AD severity, Patient-Oriented Eczema Measure (POEM), Patient-Oriented Scoring AD (POSCORAD), PO-SCORAD-itch and sleep, they evaluated AD severity. Furthermore, the evaluation of quality of life (QOL) was done via short-form (SF-)12 mental and physical health scores and Dermatology Life Quality Index (DLQI). They found AD carried a heavy patient-burden. This was particularly reported for moderate and severe AD. Findings revealed the association of SF-12 physical health scores with moderate AD only. They observed very low mean SF-12 mental health (34.7) and high DLQI scores (24.7) in relation to concurrently severe PO-SCORAD, POEM and/or PO-SCORAD-itch.
