Patient and disease characteristics of type-2 diabetes patients with or without chronic kidney disease: An analysis of the German DPV and DIVE databases
Cardiovascular Diabetology Mar 22, 2019
Bramlage P, et al. - Researchers used combined Diabetes-Patienten-Verlaufsdokumentation (DPV)/DIabetes Versorgungs-Evaluation (DIVE) registry data in order to assess the features of type 2 diabetes (T2DM) patients with or without chronic kidney disease (CKD) in Germany. CKD was detected in 50% of patients with T2DM. A median estimated glomerular filtration rate of 48.9 mL/min/1.73 m2 was detected in CKD patients, and a urinary albumin level ≥ 30 mg/g was found in 51.2%. Compared with those without CKD, old age, longer diabetes duration, and female sex were noted among those who had CKD. A higher rate of hyperkalemia and a higher rate of dyslipidemia with higher triglyceride levels and lower high-density lipoprotein cholesterol levels were observed in CKD patients. The authors suggested that diabetics should be screened for the presence of CKD and stressed the importance of controlling risk factors.
