Pathways linking birth weight and insulin sensitivity in early adolescence: A double mediation analysis
Journal of Clinical Endocrinology & Metabolism Nov 18, 2018
Van Hulst A, et al. - This investigation draws on data from a longitudinal cohort of 630 Quebec white children with a parental history of obesity (Quebec Adipose and Lifestyle Investigation in Youth study) to study pathways linking birth weight, weight gain from 0 to 2 years, and adiposity during childhood with insulin sensitivity in early adolescence. The data presented in this work showed a greater birth weight-for-length lead to improved insulin sensitivity in early adolescence, however, a greater birth weight and a faster weight gain from 0 to 2 years resulted in a lower insulin sensitivity in the presence of excess childhood adiposity.
