Pathological margin clearance and survival after pancreaticoduodenectomy in a US and European pancreatic center
Annals of Surgical Oncology May 04, 2018
van Roessel S, et al. - The relationship between pathological margin clearance, margin type, and survival was assessed in order to ascertain the optimal definition of a margin-negative resection and its exact prognostic significance on survival in resected pancreatic adenocarcinoma. Findings suggested a correlation of a margin clearance of ≥1 mm with improved survival relative to < 1 mm clearance. A margin clearance of ≥1 mm could be a more accurate predictor of a complete margin-negative resection in pancreatic cancer among patients undergoing pancreaticoduodenectomy for pancreatic adenocarcinoma. Survival also seemed influenced by the type of margin involved.
