Pathologic factors are more important than tumor location in long-term survival in colon cancer
International Journal of Colorectal Disease Mar 18, 2018
Leijssen LGJ, et al. - The effect of right-sided (RC), transverse (TC), and left-sided (LC) colon cancer on morbidity rates and oncologic outcomes was determined. There was a substantially higher need for readmission and subsequent reoperation for a leak in LC patients, despite a similar incidence of abscess/leak between the groups. More poorly differentiated tumors and microsatellite instability were disclosed in RC. No link was determined between tumor location in colon cancer with survival or disease recurrence. It was concluded that the pathologic differences beyond tumor stage were significantly more vital.
