Pathologic complete response after induction therapy—the role of surgery in stage IIIA/B locally advanced non-small cell lung cancer
Journal of Thoracic Disease Jun 15, 2018
Schreiner W, et al. - In this retrospective study, researchers examined the link between clinical and pathological factors in patients with pathologic complete response (pCR) after curative lung resection following induction therapy (IT) for locally advanced non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC). These patients were assessed using univariate and multivariate Cox regression and descriptive analysis and Kaplan-Meier method were applied to estimate survival rate. They found that, in such a patient population, pCR was an independent prognostic factor and was shown to have no correlation with pathological and clinical factors. Currently, it is not possible to perform non-operative accurate evaluation of pCR. Secure identification of pCR, as well as possible improvement of patient stratification for additive therapy, was allowed by surgical resection.
