Pathogenetic characteristics of mesenchymal stem cells in hidradenitis suppurativa
JAMA Oct 16, 2018
Campanati A, et al. - In patients with hidradenitis suppurativa (HS) and in healthy controls, researchers examined the mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) profile via a prospective case-control study. Participants in the study were patients with HS from the Dermatological Clinic at the Department of Clinical and Molecular Sciences, Università Politecnica delle Marche, Ancona, Italy. Findings revealed that MSCs isolated from the skin of patients with HS appear to be activated toward an inflammatory status and showed an immune dysregulation characterized by elevated levels of several helper T-cell cytokines. They suggested that the imbalance between proinflammatory and anti-inflammatory activities of MSCs supports the theory of their pathogenic involvement in HS.
