Wang TKM, et al. - The efficacy, as well as safety of patent foramen ovale (PFO) closure, was compared with that of medical therapy for cryptogenic stroke patients, using a meta-analysis of randomized trials. Percutaneous PFO closure vs medical therapy was shown to be beneficial at reducing ischaemic stroke and composite neurovascular or mortality events, with a higher incidence of new atrial fibrillation.
