Patellar resurfacing in primary total knee arthroplasty: A meta-analysis of randomized controlled trials
Journal of Arthroplasty Jul 26, 2019
Teel A, et al. - Given the controversies regarding the management of the patella during total knee arthroplasty (TKA), researchers examined the evidence regarding the use of patellar resurfacing in TKA. In this analysis, 20 randomized controlled trials were included. The analysis revealed a higher likelihood of requiring reoperation in knees that do not receive patellar resurfacing, most often for secondary resurfacing. However, there were uncertain findings regarding the disease burden of differing complication profiles associated with resurfacing and non-resurfacing groups.
