Patellar fracture after total knee arthroplasty with retention: a retrospective analysis of 2954 consecutive cases
Journal of Arthroplasty Apr 09, 2021
Choe JS, Bin SI, Lee BS, et al. - This study was carried out to describe patellar fracture after total knee arthroplasty with retention. Researchers retrospectively examined 2,954 consecutive total knee arthroplasties (TKAs) with patella retention between 2005 and 2019. The incidence of patellar fracture was validated. They assessed the hospital for Special Surgery knee score, union rates, and complications after treatment were evaluated to confirm the prognosis of identified patellar fractures. According to the treatment method, treatment outcomes were compared, and fracture type was classified by shape. The data exhibited that after TKA, patellar fracture with retained patella is infrequent, with relatively improved clinicoradiological results over those of patellar fracture after TKA with resurfaced patella reported in the literature. It was shown that the improved outcomes did not differ according to treatment method and fracture type.
