Partial nephrectomy vs ablative therapies for cT1a renal masses: A Systematic Review and meta-analysis
European Journal of Surgical Oncology May 15, 2019
Hu X, et al. - Oncologic and functional outcomes following partial nephrectomy (PN) vs ablation for treating clinical T1a renal masses were compared in this systematic review and meta-analysis. Researchers identified 20 articles including 5,011 patients as eligible for the present meta-analysis. Outcomes revealed a significantly lower OS and higher local recurrence rates with ablation compared to PN in selected patients. The two treatments were comparable regarding CSS and DFS. On the other hand, ablation resulted in a significantly reduced risk of perioperative complication and the potential benefit of long-term renal function preservation.
