Pars plana vitrectomy with internal limiting membrane peeling for treatment-naive diabetic macular edema: A prospective, uncontrolled pilot study
Clinical Ophthalmology Jun 23, 2021
Rush RB, et al. - In this prospective, uncontrolled pilot study, researchers reported the outcomes in patients undergoing pars plana vitrectomy (PPV) with an internal limiting membrane (ILM) peeling for the management of treatment-naïve diabetic macular edema (DME). At a single university-affiliated institution, 10 treatment-naïve individuals with non-proliferative diabetic retinopathy prospectively underwent PPV with ILM peeling for the treatment of DME. According to the findings of this pilot study, PPV with ILM peeling may be a viable treatment option for the management of treatment-naive DME in individuals with non-proliferative diabetic retinopathy. To validate the findings of this study, the development of a randomized controlled trial may be justified.
