Paroxetine-mediated G-protein receptor kinase 2 inhibition in patients with anterior myocardial infarction
JAMA Cardiology Oct 17, 2021
Pilgrim T, Vollenbroich R, Deckarm S, et al. - No improvement in left ventricular ejection fraction (LVEF) was conferred by paroxetine vs placebo in patients with acute myocardial infarction.
This double-blind, placebo-controlled randomized clinical trial included patients with acute anterior ST-segment elevation myocardial infarction with LVEF of 45% or less.
Patients (n=50) were randomly allocated to either paroxetine (experimental arm) or placebo (control group) for 12 weeks.
Recovery of LVEF at 12 weeks did not differ between the two groups.
A greater reduction in late gadolinium enhancement was evident in patients in the experimental arm vs the control group, indicating attenuation of myocardial fibrosis.
