Parotidectomy in patients with head and neck cutaneous melanoma with cervical lymph node involvement
Head & Neck Feb 20, 2019
Berger DMS, et al. - In this study, researchers estimated 40 specimens to analyze the significance of parotidectomy in head and neck cutaneous melanoma cases with involvement of cervical lymph node. They noted the spread of melanoma to parotid lymph nodes among 25% of candidates. No disparities in overall survival, melanoma-specific survival, and disease-free survival between the parotid-positive and parotid-negative individuals were observed. Overall, they preferred parotidectomy to enhance the regional control and also to prevent any damage to facial nerve damage after surgery for secondary deterioration from occult metastases in the parotid.
