Ihle J, Artaud F, Bekadar S, et al. - Using data from a multicenter longitudinal cohort of Parkinson disease (PD) patients with annual visits up to 6 years, researchers explored if a PD polygenic risk score (PRS) correlated with impulse control disorders (ICDs) in PD. ICDs, specified as compulsive gambling, buying, eating, or sexual behavior, were assessed by movement disorders experts at each annual visit. One hundred eighty-five out of 403 patients developed ICDs. A higher prevalence of ICDs and higher PRS values were seen in patients who were a younger age at onset. There was no connection between the PRS and ICDs when examined at baseline. Over time, the prevalence of ICDs increased equally across the PRS quartiles. The results do not support common susceptibility genes for PD and ICDs, even with younger disease onset being linked to both higher PRS and ICD prevalence.
