Paravertebral block vs intercostal nerve block in non-intubated uniportal video-assisted thoracoscopic surgery: A randomised controlled trial
Heart, Lung, and Circulation May 09, 2019
Mogahed MM, et al. - In this study with 105 patients who underwent video-assisted thoracoscopy without endotracheal intubation and using a laryngeal airway, researchers compared paravertebral block to intercostal nerve block in terms of anaesthetic and analgesic sparing impacts on the non-intubated technique with spontaneous ventilation in patients under general anaesthesia using a supraglottic airway device. In patients undergoing uniportal thoracoscopic surgery, regional anaesthesia by either preoperative paravertebral block or thoracoscopic intercostal nerve block with ipsilateral vagal block offered an anaesthetic sparing impact, guided by lower expiratory fraction of sevoflurane concentration, with comparable bi-spectral index.
