Parastomal hernia repair with a 3D funnel intraperitoneal mesh device and same-sided stoma relocation: Results of 56 cases
World Journal of Surgery Nov 15, 2017
Fischer I, et al. - Authors focused on parastomal hernia (PSH) repair with a three-dimensional (3D) funnel intraperitoneal mesh device and same-sided stoma relocation. In this study, this PSH repair technique proved safe, efficient and was easy to perform in laparoscopic and open surgical approaches providing advantageous results compared to other techniques. In addition, simultaneous detection and treatment of concomitant incisional hernias had proved favorable. However, the mesh funnel distended and became shortened encasing a bulky bowel mesentery and further shrinkage happened eccentric. Reduction in recurrence could be achieved with changing mesh construction in accordance to lengthening the funnel.
