Para-aortic plus pelvic lymphadenectomy in locally advanced cervical cancer: A single institutional experience
European Journal of Obstetrics & Gynecology and Reproductive Biology May 08, 2019
Mezquita G, et al. - Researchers examined transperitoneal laparoscopic para-aortic and pelvic lymphadenectomy with respect to the safety and effectiveness in the setting of the surgical staging of patients with locally advanced cervical cancer (LACC). In addition, they analyzed this staging for the prognostic ability and impact on the survival prognosis in LACC. They retrospectively analyzed data from 67 patients and identified that exact information about nodal state could be gained and tailored treatment planning could be done via performing transperitoneal para-aortic and pelvic lymphadenectomy in these patients, circumventing false negative and false positive imaging results. The external beam radiotherapy field had to include the aortic area in 17.9% of patients, whilst 47.7% received pelvic boost to the involved nodes.
