Pain sensation in human osteoarthritic knee joints is strongly enhanced by diabetes mellitus

Eitner A, et al. – Objectives of this study were to investigate whether the presence of diabetes mellitus had a significant impact on pain intensity at the end stage of knee osteoarthritis (OA) and to analyze factors possibly associated with changes in pain intensity in diabetic patients. Researchers proposed that diabetes mellitus significantly increased pain intensity of knee OA. Higher pain intensities were determined by stronger synovitis in diabetic patients.
