Pain-relief as a motivation for cannabis use among young adult users with and without chronic pain
The Journal of Pain Feb 08, 2019
Fales JL, et al. - Researchers determined the rate of chronic pain in a community sample of young adult cannabis users and investigated pain-relief as a motivation for cannabis use. Further, they sought the differences in consumption patterns and problem behaviors between users with and without chronic pain. In this cross-sectional study, self-selected community-dwelling young adults (ages 18-29; n = 143) who regularly use cannabis completed an online survey. Analysis revealed the fulfillment of the criteria for chronic pain by approximately 40% of the sample. Pain relief was noted to be the primary motivation for use in these cases.
