Pain catastrophizing as a predictor for postoperative pain and opiate consumption in total joint arthroplasty patients
Archives of Orthopaedic and Trauma Surgery Oct 08, 2017
Wright D, et al. - In this study, pain catastrophizing and postoperative pain intensity were explored in total joint arthroplasty (TJA) patients, adjusting for analgesic intake, presuming that postoperative pain scores and analgesic needs in Âpain catastrophizers would be higher. Researchers observed that at 3-month postoperatively, pain was poorly predicted by the pain catastrophizing scale. However, it may be a risk factor for increased length of stay (LOS).
