Paediatric breath-holding spells are associated with autonomic dysfunction and iron deficiency may play a role

Tomoum H, et al. - The cardiac performance and iron underwent exploratory evaluation in individuals aged 12-36 months with breath-holding spells (BHS).
Our study of patients aged 12-13 months, supported the theory of autonomic dysfunction in BHS. The ECG findings, particularly in patients with prolonged or frequent spells, warranted additional analysis in order to contemplate the risk of life-threatening events. It was determined that iron deficiency could play a role in autonomic dysfunction in patients with BHS.
