Overtime trend of thyroid hormones and thyroid autoimmunity and ovarian reserve: A longitudinal population study with a 12-year follow up
BMC Endocrine Disorders May 13, 2019
Bahri S, et al. - In reproductive-aged women who were part of a 12-year cohort of Tehran Thyroid Study (TTS), researchers investigated the trend over time of thyroid hormones and thyroid peroxidase antibody (TPO Ab) and how they correlate with ovarian reserve status, identified by age-specific anti-mullerian hormone (AMH) levels. From the TTS cohort, 775 reproductive age women without any thyroid disease or ovarian dysfunction were chosen. According to findings, higher TPO Ab levels were seen in women with the lowest ovarian reserves with a positive trend of this antibody over time compared to other quartiles, signifying this group could have a greater risk of hypothyroidism over time.
