Overlooked muscle cramps in patients with chronic liver disease: In relation to the prevalence of muscle cramps
European Journal of Gastroenterology & Hepatology Feb 08, 2019
Murata A, et al. - Using a medical interview questionnaire, researchers clarified the prevalence and characteristics of muscle cramps in individual chronic liver disease (CLD). Study participants included 432 patients with CLD who visited the hospital. Investigators found that the prevalence of muscle cramps was 25.9%. They observed that muscle cramps prevalence in CLD was relatively high. Findings suggested an association of female sex, comorbid diabetes and chronic kidney disease with muscle cramps in CLD. In addition, reduced muscle mass in nonalcoholic fatty liver disease was associated with muscle cramps.
