Overall and peripheral lung function assessment by spirometry and forced oscillation technique in relation to asthma diagnosis and control
Clinical & Experimental Allergy Sep 25, 2017
Heijkenskjold-Rentzhog C, et al. - This study assessed the link between spirometry or multi-frequency (5, 11 and 19 Hz) forced oscillation technique (FOT)- derived lung function variables and asthma diagnosis and control. It was observed that related to asthma diagnosis, the information provided by resistance FOT measures and spirometry was equal. Notably, resistance FOT measures represented an additional source of information over and above FEV1/FVC, exhibiting a complementary role. In addition, asthma control was found to be associated with FOT measures of peripheral airways, indicating a potential use in identifying such involvement.
