Ovarian torsion in adolescents with and without ovarian mass: A cross- sectional study
Journal of Pediatric and Adolescent Gynecology May 28, 2021
Karaca SY, et al. - In this retrospective cross-sectional study, the characteristics of adolescents with and without adnexal mass diagnosed with ovarian torsion (OT) were compared. They assessed 76 adolescent girls operated for OT, 41 of these (53.9%) had an ovarian mass (OTwM), and 35 (46.1%) patients had no pathology (OTnP). Observations suggest relevance of the presence of follicle peripheralization indicating ovarian edema on ultrasound and the presence of free fluid in the abdomen with respect to suspicion of torsion in symptomatic adolescents without an ovarian mass. Furthermore, the degree of torsion has raised in these patients.
