Ovarian function and reproductive outcome after ovarian tissue transplantation: A systematic review

Journal of Translational Medicine Dec 09, 2019

Sheshpari S, Shahnazi M, Mobarak H, et al. - Researchers conducted the current systematic review to compile the current knowledge of ovarian tissue transplantation and present insight on ovarian function, fertility and reproductive outcome following ovarian tissue transplantation. They included 25 articles in this study. In general, they identified ovarian and endocrine function restoration as well as follicular growth among 70% of patients who underwent ovarian tissue transplantation. Fifty-two percent of the patients reported the pregnancy. Evidence gained suggests the utility and the applicability of ovarian tissue transplantation for the restoration of hormonal function, endocrine balance and eventually fertility outcomes in patients that are predisposed to lose their fertility, diagnosed with premature ovarian failure, as well as women undergoing cancer treatments. Findings highlight the necessity for recognization of the techniques with the lowest invasions for follicular and oocyte development after ovarian tissue transplantation in order to decrease probable adverse effects after treatment.
