Outpatient pulmonary rehabilitation for severe asthma with fixed airway obstruction: Comparison with COPD
Journal of Asthma Feb 07, 2019
Bellocq A, et al. - Researchers evaluated 26 candidates to assess the pulmonary rehabilitation (PR) for severe asthma with fixed airway obstruction in comparison with COPD. They noticed moderate airway obstruction (median FEV1 57%). They also found a higher VO2 at peak for asthma as compared to COPD cases. Similar changes in Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale (HAD) total score were observed. They noted a significant improvement in the quality of life on the St. George’s Respiratory Questionnaire (SGRQ) in both groups. Overall, they suggested outpatient PR, feasible and well tolerated in subjects with severe asthma with fixed airway obstruction.
